Holocaust Studies is a multidisciplinary field that presents many challenges. In addition to a broad knowledge of general history and Jewish History, it is essential that researchers have a background in other disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, social Psychology, law and literature as well as both expertise in the developing field of Genocide Studies and War Criminals, and a thorough knowledge of the relevant European languages.
Thus, the program offers courses in the history of World War II, Nazi Germany and the Holocaust; social history of the family, women and children in the Holocaust period; psychological aspects of Holocaust trauma; anthropology of memory, trauma and commemoration; international law and genocide; etc.
- All students will study German (obligatory).
- Overseas students will have the option of studying Hebrew at an extra cost.
- Other languages relevant to students' research topics will be taught.

An organized study visit to Germany and Poland will include historical sites related to Jewish life before the Second World War as well as ghettos, death Camps and museums. The visits will include joint seminars with local students and leading German and Polish scholars.
The study visit will also include a discussion of the manner in which the memory of the Holocaust has been shaped in the two host countries. A comparative discussion will be held in Israel when the students will visit central museums in Israel. Alongside the visits and lectures, students in the program will participate in social activities with local students.
*The study tour is an optional but recommended part of the program.
